Composing An Expository Essay – A Guide For 6th Graders

Students around the world sit down to write certain academic assignments in their careers. The type and difficulty of assignment varies from person to person. Some teachers would prefer you to submit an expository assignment while others assign you argumentative, comparison, persuasive, informative, narrative or an analysis essay. You will attempt papers on different subjects specified by your teachers. If the teacher gives you a larger subject, it is for you to narrow it down and find a potential niche that will impress your audience. You need to understand that your audience will be interested in a paper if it is based on original ideas

An expository paper is the type of assignment where you have to give details about the given subject. It is more like a descriptive paper where you have to give relevant information about the subject. The information that you include in your assignment should be valuable and valid so that your audience finds it worth reading and you are able to score a good grade

Here is a guide for students who want to compose an expository essay for 6th grade

  1. Decide the subject area
  2. The first thing that you should do is to decide a subject area you want to address in your paper. Your professor would have specified the larger subject but it is for you to decide the narrowed down area or the potential gap that you will address in your assignment. Try to pick something that you are interested in so that the audience can feel that through your writing.

  3. Develop your thesis
  4. Create a thesis that you will base your paper around. This should be the extract of the entire assignment. This helps you in carrying out your research and the reader to understand what the rest of your paper is about

  5. Gather your evidence
  6. Collect the evidence you need for your paper through valid and authenticated sources. This should be valuable information about a certain aspect of the subject that you are highlighting

  7. Create an outline
  8. Analyze the data you have collected and organize them in an outline to create a proper structure for your paper

  9. Write your paper
  10. Use the points in the outline to write your paper

  11. Edit and proofread
  12. Revise your paper, read it aloud and check for proofing and grammar errors before you submit it
